Minimum Wage Rates to Increase


With effect from 1st October 2009, National Minimum Wage Rates increase as follows:

  • The main adult rate will increase from £5.73 to £5.80 per hour
  • The rate for 18 to 21 year olds will increase from £4.77 to £4.83
  • The rate for 16 and 17 year will increases from £3.53 to £3.57.

The Government has also signaled its intention to ban employers from using tips to bring employees' wages up to national minimum wage levels from October.
